Sketches from Sargent Painting

Here are some sketches from one of my favorite John Singer Sargent paintings that he painted in Venice. The way the light cuts into the shadowed interior is very direct, especially the strip of light on the floor. There are some other sketches on the first page that were from a photo I took looking at a similar light effect.
